I’m coming up on the 7 year anniversary of the purchase of my current car, a Mazda5 6MT. Despite the length of time I’ve owned it I still love it, still love driving it, it’s still 100% reliable and I have no desire to replace it. Every time I see it I smile, and I look forward to cleaning and polishing it and doing little upgrades.
I don’t know if I’m in the majority or the minority here, and want to get some ideas from the Oppo hive mind as to how long it takes for one to become bored with your current car. Or is a car be like a spouse - once you find the right one for you you stick with it for the long haul despite any minor annoyances or flaws...

I get tired of mine once it is no longer financially feasible to maintain...and beyond!
I still miss my old Subaru, but I still love my little Accent. The Subie’s been gone since 2013 and I’ve had the Accent since the same!

Depends how much power it has. And, if it’s not especially powerful, depends how versatile it is in some other purposeful way.
We kept my wife’s own first vehicle, a ‘ 98 ZJ GC for nearly two decades.

I’ve owned my Evo since 2003, we’ve had our R53 since 2005 and I’ve had my 68 Mustang since 1990, so yeah...

car shopping -yuck. I’m with you there. My last experience was a good one, but despite that I’d rather not go through it again anytime soon.
I feel like I got lucky with my current car - it’s my fun vehicle, it’s my practical vehicle, it’s my small vehicle and it’s my large vehicle. I don’t know if I could have found anything better balanced for my needs, and thus I’m in no hurry to get something else.

I recently met a police officer who has owned 14 Jeeps. He currently owns about the same number of vehicles of all stripes as I’ve ever owned. Says he gets bored after a couple of years.
I owned my del Sol for 14 years. I hope to own my Wrangker for at least that, despite its continuous state of being not-1 00% functional.

I feel like in order to be comfortable with the purchase, I have to ‘win’ the negotiations and that forces me to be someone I’d rather not be.
I too am mostly happy with my current vehicle but it’s also getting up there in miles and is too small for the family.
O ne good t hing about getting a new car is that maybe I could find a performance wagon.

About 8 months or so. Has happened to every single car I’ve ever owned, with one exception. My S10 pickup. I only got rid of it because it was broadsided and totaled.

I don’t know that I’ve ever gotten bored with a vehicle, actually. Looking back to all the reasons I got rid of various vehicles ... No, boredom isn’t on that list.
13-1/2 years and counting with my truck, and I love it as much as ever.

About six months. I so badly want to buy another awful sub-$2000 car capture that fleeting feeling of “new-to-me-ness”
But alas...

Every third or fourth time I look at my car I think “what a masterpiece”
Then I realize I’m actually looking at my neighbors M5

Ive only had my Truck as on permanent loan from my parents. I've had it for 6 or so years, and I'm not bored with it, mostly because there's plenty of simple fun mods to do.

I really depends. I suppose it's a bit of a sliding scale based mostly on how different it is compared to how much of a pain it is to keep on the road.

Not really “Bored” but with my Caravan I was thinking it was boring performance wise after 6 months, it was still very practical just not a sports car so I bought the BMW, but after a year I wanted to get rid of the van for safety reasons.
An E30 BMW is never boring but I have a love hate relationship with it, in that when I’m driving it I love it, but every other time like when it is parked and/or broken I hate it. I’ve owned it for 9.5 years.
The Ranger in the 9 years Iv’e owned it (Oct 2010) not once have I ever been bored. In the city it handles just as good as the BMW (Better in certain situations) and after installing the LSD last year, my joy has increased.

18-20 months. The Taco beat that by a couple of years, I’m hoping the 4Runner is a long term ride. I just need to find a third car that holds my attention, too.

One of the perks of only buying cars that are typically $5,000 or less is that I don't have to worry about getting bored of them before they die. I've never had any car for more than 5 years, most less than that. This Fiat is the nicest car I've ever owned by far, and it has the lowest mileage. So we'll see what happens.

My heart wanders a little until I drive a rental car for a day. When I get back in mine at the airport and the exhaust grumbles I’m happy again.

Depends on the car. I got tired of my ’94 Cougar (NA V6) almost as soon as I got it #couldhavehadav8 . But I still love my V8 Mustang still after several years of ownership. Just gotta pick the right car for you.

Usually 6 months, but there are outliers among the 60+ cars I've owned . I’ve had my Studebaker for 15ish years, my XJ for 17ish years and my Suburban for 2.5 years. I could see selling the Suburban in favor of a crew cab or an ‘08+ Suburban 2500 with the 6L90E transmission, but so far I just love the dumb thing. I’ve come close to selling it, but I just can’t. It’s just so nice, comfy and useful despite the abysmal fuel economy.

I don’t get bored with my vehicles.
Even if I start to, I just modify whatever is making me bored, problem solved.

It all depends on the car itself. I bought a Nissan Cube a year ago and got bored with it in the first 3 months. A couple months later I traded it for a mostly-basic Ford F-150 and after 6 months I still love it.
I bought a new Ford Ranger in 2009, and it lasted 4 years before I started having a wandering eye. It’s replacement (a Fiat 500 Sport) only stuck around for a year and a half. I wasn’t necessarily bored with it, though, it was just a pain in the ass to drive in the snow and I also needed something larger.

I don’t get bored with cars, but I do want to drive more cars. Even the bland Chrysler 200 I still own, but let the missus drive, I never got bored with it. I just want to drive more vehicles.

Got bored of my truck’s fuel economy after only three months. Got bored of the Crown Vic constantly but I couldn’t afford to replace it until it was truly dead. Almost two years with the G35 and I still love it almost as much as the day I got it.
